Bills Sign Michael Buchanan, Waive Roth

Michael Buchanan was signed by the Bills on Tuesday after visiting the team on Friday.

The Buffalo Bills officially signed free agent Michael Buchanan on Tuesday. Buchanan sent out a tweet that simply said, “New Beginnings” before the signing was officially announced by the Bills.

To make room for Buchanan on the 90-man roster, Buffalo waived punter Spencer Roth. Buchanan made a free agent visit with the Bills last Friday.

In Buffalo, Buchanan will compete for a reserve role at outside linebacker behind Mario Williams and Jerry Hughes. As a rookie in 2013, Buchanan flashed some potential as a pass rusher. He recorded two sacks and seven quarterback hurries in 122 snaps per Pro Football Focus.

Buchanan could also earn a spot on the 53-man roster by playing special teams. In his rookie season, Buchanan played over 40 percent of New England’s special teams snaps.
