A Buffalo Bills defensive player has made the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2015 list for three consecutive weeks. Defensive tackle Kyle Williams was named the 72nd best player two weeks ago and Jerry Hughes joined the list last week at No. 63. This week, Marcell Dareus was named as the NFL’s 53rd best player.
In 2014, Dareus played in 15 games and ended the season with 49 total tackles on Buffalo’s defensive line. He also notched 10 sacks last season, a career-high. In addition to his sacks, Pro Football Focus (PFF) also credited Dareus with 19 quarterback hurries. While Dareus was terrific in getting to the quarterback, he was even better in run defense. PFF rated Dareus as the No. 1 defensive tackle against the run last season and credited him with 35 total stops on the season.
In addition to being named to the NFL’s Top 100 Players list, Dareus was named to the Associated Press All-Pro Team in 2014, PFF’s Top 101 Players (No. 55) and he made his second consecutive Pro Bowl appearance.
Last season, Dareus’ play helped the Bills finish as the fourth best defense in the league. Buffalo knows that Dareus is one of their defensive cornerstones and the team has stated that they would like to extend him to a long-term deal before the start of the season.
Dareus’ addition to the list leaves Mario Williams as the only defensive lineman to not make the list to this point. Last season, Williams came in at No. 29 and he’ll certain be on the list this year as well. Buffalo’s defensive line is getting the respect it deserves among its peers this offseason.
