John Miller Impressing Bills Coaches

John Miller has impressed the Bills coaching staff during OTAs. Miller looks like the favorite to start along with Richie Incognito at guard in 2015.

The open guard competition may not be much of a competition at all for the Buffalo Bills.

Richie Incognito has one of the two positions locked up and John Miller, Buffalo’s third round draft pick, is the favorite to win the other job. The only question right now is where will Miller play? During OTAs, Miller has worked with the first team units at left and right guard.

During his career at Louisville, Miller started 47 games and alternated in-game between left and right guard. His versatility is appealing and during the team’s OTAs, Miller is drawing praise from his coaches.

Offensive line coach Aaron Kromer said the following to Matthew Fairburn of Syracuse.com:

"He was well coached in college," Kromer said. "When he got here, he was further along than some guys. He's an extremely intelligent football player. He understands why we're trying to do things and that really helps him be more productive."

Kromer isn’t the only one who’s been impressed. Head coach Rex Ryan has gushed about the rookie guard. When talking to Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News, Ryan said the following on Miller:

“I’m ecstatic with Miller. I think Miller’s handled it. I think he’s a 10-year vet out there. He doesn’t make mental mistakes and he’s an athletic guy.

“When we took him” as a third-round draft pick from Louisville, “we thought he’d be our starter and we’ll see. But I feel pretty confident that he’s going to be a major contributor for us.”

In 2014, Buffalo drafted Preston Brown out of Louisville in the third round and the linebacker contributed immediately for the team. Through OTAs, it appears that the Bills hit on another Louisville prospect in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft in Miller.
