Matt Cassel will not play vs. the Browns

Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel will see a lot of playing time on Thursday night.

Matt Cassel will not see the field for the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night.

Unlike many Bills starters, the quarterback is not injured. Buffalo simply said they want to get an extended look at Tyrod Taylor and E.J. Manuel. Among Buffalo’s quarterbacks, Cassel has the most on-field experience by far, and coaching staff knows what the veteran brings to the table. There’s no need to get him on the field tonight against Cleveland.

It’s possible that Taylor could play the entire first half with Manuel taking the third and fourth quarter. Tonight may be the biggest game of Taylor’s career. If the quarterback has an impressive showing, the team could name Taylor the starter sooner rather than later. That said, injuries will have both quarterbacks playing with backups tonight. The Bills are without their top five running backs and top three wide receivers. Buffalo will feature Bronson Hill, Ricky Seale and Cierre Wood at running back and Marquise Goodwin and Chris Hogan are most likely to start at wide receiver.
