EJ Manuel to start at QB vs. Steelers

EJ Manuel will be the first QB on the field versus the Steelers on Saturday.

Rex Ryan announced on Thursday that E.J. Manuel would be starting at quarterback when the Buffalo Bills take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. The news is a bit of a surprise.

Technically, Manuel was in line to start based on the rotation Buffalo has been using. Matt Cassel started the first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers and Tyrod Taylor started against the Cleveland Browns in the second week of the preseason. That said, Manuel worked with the third team offense against the Panthers and played the entire second half of the Browns game. On Tuesday, Manuel worked mostly with the scout team during the final training camp practice at St. John Fisher College.

All three quarterbacks are believed to be getting a shot with the first team offense on Saturday, and all three could play up to one quarter. Manuel will get the first chance to impress the coaching staff. Through two games, Manuel is 13 of 22 for 188 yards and two touchdowns. He has also converted a two point conversion on a pass to Bronson Hill and run the ball four times for 13 yards.
