Bills place Leodis McKelvin on Reserve/NFI

Leodis McKelvin was placed on the Reserve/NFI list by the Buffalo Bills on Friday.

The Buffalo Bills placed Leodis McKelvin on the Reserve/NFI list on Friday. The cornerback missed training camp and the preseason after suffering a setback to his ankle. McKelvin had been on Buffalo's Active/PUP list.

McKelvin will not count towards Buffalo's 53-man roster by being placed on the Reserve/NFI list. He won't be able to return to the lineup for the Bills until after Week 6. For the majority of training camp, McKelvin was seen on a scooter with a cast on his foot. The cast has since been removed but he still needs time to completely heal from his injury.

Buffalo will start the season with Stephon Gilmore and rookie Ronald Darby as their starting cornerbacks with Nickell Robey handling the nickel cornerback role. Once McKelvin returns, he could take over for Darby depending on how the rookie looks through the first six weeks of the season. In addition to Buffalo's starting trio, it's believed that the Bills will also carry Ron Brooks and Mario Butler. It's yet to be seen if the team will carry a sixth cornerback.
