Bills considering QB Alex Tanney for P.S.?

Alex Tanney is heading to Buffalo with the newest Buffalo Bills OL Gabe Ikard.

The Buffalo Bills claimed center Gabe Ikard on Sunday to fill one of their two remaining roster spots. The offensive lineman is on his way to Buffalo now, and it appears he’s bringing a quarterback with him.

Quarterback Alex Tanney could be a practice squad candidate for the Bills. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because the Bills invited Tanney to their rookie minicamp back in 2012. Tanney’s name may also be familiar because he’s known as the ‘Trick Shot Quarterback.’ During his college career at Monmouth, Tanney filmed a video showing his uncanny accuracy. Here’s a look at Tanney’s trick shots.

At Monmouth, Tanney threw for 14,249 yards and 157 touchdowns. He won the Melberger Trophy in 2009 for being the best player in D-III football.

In addition to his rookie camp with the Bills, Tanney spent training camp with the Chiefs in 2012.

Tanney spent part of the 2013 season on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad. The Cleveland Browns signed Tanney off of Dallas’ practice squad in November to their active roster and he stayed with the Browns through May of 2014.

Since his time with the Browns, Tanney has been with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans. He signed a futures contract with Tennessee last season and made it to final cuts this year.

Now, Tanney may be getting an opportunity to make Buffalo’s practice squad.
