Merrill Noel joins Bills practice squad

Merrill Noel was signed to the Bills practice squad on Wednesday.

The Buffalo Bills made a change to their practice squad on Wednesday. Buffalo added cornerback Merrill Noel to the squad and released quarterback Alex Tanney. After re-signing Matt Cassel on Tuesday, the Bills found themselves with three capable quarterbacks on their 53-man roster. For that reason, the team probably didn't feel it was a need to have another quarterback on their practice squad.

Noel originally signed with the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of Wake Forest. He was waived in June when Buffalo signed tight end Matthew Mulligan, but later re-signed in early August. The UDFA performed pretty well for Buffalo during the preseason. The cornerback registered four tackles, one sack and one pass defensed for the Bills in four games played.

The 5'8" cornerback was a third-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection at Wake Forest. In his college career, Noel played in 44 games and recorded eight interceptions and 31 passes defensed.
