Buffalo Football Report Stat of the Week: Rex Ryan goes for the sweep

Rex Ryan has never won both matchups in a season against the Miami Dolphins.

The Buffalo Bills have the chance to sweep the season series against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. If the team can pull off this feat, it’ll be the first time that Rex Ryan has ever swept the Dolphins. From 2009-2014, Ryan couldn’t get the job done against the Dolphins as the head coach of the New York Jets. Here’s a look at how Ryan has fared against Miami over the years.

In addition to trying to pick up a season sweep over the Dolphins, Ryan can also try to improve upon his post-bye week record. Heading into 2015, Ryan holds a 1-5 record after the bye. This year, Ryan gave the Bills a week off leading up to the game. He noted that this was something he had never done before but he got the idea from Andy Reid.

“The best record, the guy that has the best record consistently off a bye week, is Andy Reid, and this is what he does,” Ryan told reporters as the team got back to work Monday.

Reid holds a 14-2 record following the bye week so there could be something to his method of giving his players the week off. On Sunday, we’ll see if giving the players the week off pays off for Buffalo. If it does, Ryan will pick up his first sweep of the Dolphins and improve his post-bye week record.
