The Sabres were in Denver to play the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night. In the offseason, Colorado traded Ryan O'Reilly and Jamie McGinn to the Sabres. Since it was the first time they'd be playing their former team in Denver, Bylsma made sure the duo were out on the ice to start the game.
It was a move similar to what Ryan does when Buffalo Bills players go against their former teams. Ryan will adjust team captains on a weekly basis and will feature Bills players against their former teams.
Unfortunately for Bylsma, placing O'Reilly and McGinn on the ice at the start of the game didn't give the Sabres any good luck. The team fell to the Avalanche 2-1 on Wednesday.
The move may not have paid off, but the Rex Effect was on display on Wednesday for the Sabres.
