The quarterback's contract is fully guaranteed so cutting Manuel wouldn't help Buffalo's cap situation at all. Although Manuel struggled as a starter in 2015, going 0-2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Cincinnati Bengals, Bills head coach Rex Ryan gave the QB a vote of confidence as Tyrod Taylor's backup.
Vic Carucci of The Buffalo News was able to have an exclusive interview with Ryan, and the head coach opened up about Buffalo's quarterback situation. Ryan mentioned that the team is open to drafting a quarterback as the NFL is a "quarterback-driven league." He noted that he doesn't think drafting a QB would distract Taylor, but then mentioned that he isn't done working with Manuel.
“I’m not done with EJ Manuel, either," Ryan said. "I think EJ’s got the talent, the size and all that stuff. Sometimes, just guys take a little bit longer to develop, so we’ll see how that goes.”
Although he has some of the intangibles that you look for in an NFL QB, it's hard to believe that things will just click for Manuel in 2016. Manuel's biggest issue has been his accuracy and it's unlikely that he can fix his accuracy enough to be a quality starter or backup in the league.null
