Colton Schmidt had a fine season with the Buffalo Bills. The punter averaged 46.7 yards per punt and had a long punt of 65 yards. Twenty-two of his 82 punts even landed inside the 20-yard line. His average was good for tenth in the league and his net-average of 41.3 yards was seventh best in the NFL. Overall, that's a pretty solid season.
Although Schmidt had a good season for Buffalo, he was recognized by Sports Illustrated for one of his poor plays. Schmidt was named the winner of the "Worst Play, Punter Edition" by Chris Burke.
The play in question was Schmidt's punt against the Washington Redskins where he actually missed the ball and ended up kicking it off the ground. Burke called the play a "debacle."
Here's a look back at the play:
The ball clearly slips away from Schmidt and bounces onto the turf. Luckily, Schmidt was able to connect with the ball off the bounce.
