The 2016 NFL draft is 44 days away. Who have the Buffalo Bills drafted at pick 44?
Buffalo has drafted three players at pick 44. Here’s a look at the former Bills players.
Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama (2014)
There were concerns about Cyrus Kouandjio’s knees leading up to the 2014 NFL draft. Reports said that at least six teams were concerned with his knees before the draft and the offensive tackle fell all the way to pick 44. Offensive tackle was a need for the Bills as the team was looking for a right tackle and the team apparently had no concerns over Kouandjio’s knees. It seemed like Buffalo was getting tremendous value with the Kouandjio pick, but the pick hasn’t paid off to date.
Kouandjio appeared in one game as a rookie, but the right tackle job that was available went to seventh round draft pick Seantrel Henderson. After his rookie season, Kouandjio spent the entire offseason working with LeCharles Bentley. He showed much improvement at camp, but was beat out again by Henderson. Later in the 2015 season, Jordan Mills was given the right tackle job over Kouandjio. He appeared in 12 games in 2015 and started in two games.
Entering his third season, Kouandjio is once again involved in a competition for the right tackle job. There’s no telling if things will click for Kouandjio in year three, but he’ll receive another opportunity to impress the coaching staff. It should be noted that Kouandjio will only be 23 years old at the start of the season.
Jim Moss, LB, South Carolina (1963)
Moss never registered a professional snap according to Pro Football Reference. However, he was inducted into South Carolina’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997. Moss’ bio on the South Carolina Athletics HOF website says the following about his college career:
Three-year letterman at tackle on the gridiron ... two-time All-ACC selection (1961, 1962) ... two-time winner of the Jacobs Blocking Trophy (1961, 1962) as the best blocker in the state of South Carolina, as voted by sportswriters ... played in the Blue-Gray All-Star game after his senior season (1962) ... played one season for Coach Warren Giese (3-6-1 record) and two seasons for Coach Marvin Bass (combined 8-11-1).
Dave Viti, WR, Boston University (1962)
Viti played at Boston University for three seasons. In that time, he registered 33 receptions for 498 yards and one touchdown.
The WR didn’t register any stats with the Bills.
