Jon Dahlin/Viking Update

Buffalo Bills sign S Robert Blanton

Safety Robert Blanton signed with the Buffalo Bills on Friday.

The Buffalo Bills hosted their first defensive free agent on Friday and it didn't take long for the team to sign Robert Blanton. The signing was announced on Twitter by Blanton's agent.

Blanton has spent the last four seasons of his career with the Minnesota Vikings. Over that time, Blanton has recorded 213 total tackles, five passes defensed, and one interception. Blanton's most notable season came in 2014 when he started in 13 games with the Vikings. During that season, Blanton recorded 106 total tackles, two passes defensed and one interception.

In addition to his ability to play safety, Blanton has contributed on special teams with the Vikings throughout his career.

Blanton is a good fit with the Bills. Buffalo currently has some questions at the safety position. Aaron Williams is returning from a serious neck injury in 2016 and Corey Graham had coverage issues in 2015. The veteran could see significant playing time behind the starting duo and contribute on special teams.

Blanton will compete for a reserve role against Duke Williams, Jonathan Meeks, and Jonathan Dowling.
