Buffalo Bills wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal joined the John Murphy Show on Wednesday night. Murphy, joined by former Bills punter Brian Moorman, talked to Lal about OTAs and asked the WRs coach to break down some of the wide receivers behind Buffalo’s starting duo of Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods. Here’s what Lal said about the receivers competing for roster spots.
"He is a smart, savvy, excellent route runner. I don’t think we win the Jets game without what he did on third down for us. We’re really counting on him to come through, take another step, and really be the guy that when all else fails, Greg’s going to get open."
"I think we’re lucky to have him. He’s big, physical target. He’s got 10.5 hands so he catches the ball really, really strongly. Good route runner. He’s picking up everything really well."
"Leonard is really smooth. He’s one of our best route runners. If you’re an aficionado for the game, he’s just like so smooth you like enjoy watching how he runs routes. So very smooth, got sneaky speed, he’s a 4.4 guy, so again intrigued by him too."
"He’s a big, physical, tough specimen. He’s done a nice job separating versus man-to-man this camp."
"His learning curve was steep... He’s done a great job of almost transforming his running style. He’s running lower to the ground now. He’s 6’4” so that’s hard for him. Staying in drive phase longer and of all the guys I know for a fact how much work he put in on his own this offseason and it’s really showing."
"Walt’s biggest trait that you don’t see right now is his run after catch ability. His catch-run transition is one of the best on the team."
"You can just see how explosive he is. His half speed looks explosive."
