Stephon Gilmore has been in the news quite a bit this week. First, Gilmore was named the third best outside cornerback in the NFL by SI.com. Later in the week, Gilmore and Ronald Darby just missed out on Ike Taylor's Top 5 CB Duos entering 2016. Now, the Buffalo Bills cornerback is being named Buffalo's most underrated player.
Vincent Verhei of Football Outsiders wrote a piece on ESPN Insider about the most underrated player on every NFL team. For the Bills, Verhei selected Gilmore.
From the ESPN Insider piece:
Cornerback Stephon Gilmore
Gilmore was overshadowed last season by rookie Ronald Darby at cornerback but had a fine campaign in his own right, with a 50 percent success rate and 7.2 yards allowed per target in coverage (ranking 47th and 25th in those categories out of 75 qualifying cornerbacks), before suffering a shoulder injury in Week 13. Imagine how good Darby and Gilmore will be if Rex Ryan can remember how to reignite the Bills' pass rush.
Gilmore is entering the final season of his contract with the Bills and will command a large salary next year if he builds off of his strong 2015 campaign.
