Free Agent Focus: Other Guys

Today we focus on a few players that the Bills could be targeting specifically to add. While we focused on many positions early the week we feel that the following players may get a call from the Bills where no one else at their position would be considered due to a small pool and/or there's not an over whelming need to fill the position as it could be filled with a draft pick or someone else on the roster.

QB Billy Volek: As we reported earlier this month Volek would likely be a better fit for the Bills then trading for Drew Henson many reasons. Specifically because Henson has been out of football the last three seasons and won't cost the team a draft choice. Volek could easily replace an aged Alex Van Pelt as the team's primary backup and possibly even compete with Drew Bledsoe for the team's top QB.

FB Dan Kreider: The Bills lost former backup FB Phil Crosby earlier this off-season when the Patriots signed him and Sam Gash is due to be an unrestricted free agent and may be lost as well. Kreider is a young Gash in he's known for his blocking ability. Also helping Kreider is he's familiar with Mike Mularky and most of the offensive coaching staff having played in Pittsburgh the past four years. The Bills did sign Damion Shelton earlier in the off-season but having missed a year in the NFL there are questions if he was brought in a s a replacement or simply to compete with the position as team President and GM Tom Donahoe is known for liking the idea of competition on the roster.

RB Sammy Morris: While Travis Henry and Willis McGahee are expected to be the primary 1-2 punch in the running attack we feel it important to retain Morris. Morris has been the team's special team's captain the last few seasons. Not only that but he could prove to be worth a talented 3rd down, catch the ball out of the backfield, type of threat that every team could use.

LB DaShon Polk: Polk may be re-signed for the team as he's been a spot starter in goal line situations the last two seasons and is a good backup and special teams player. Yet with the team drafting Angelo Crowell and Mario Haggan last year Polk's time here could be done.
