Bills prep for Browns

The Bills spent much of their afternoon practice – their only practice of the day – going over what they're likely to face this weekend vs. the Browns in the 10 a.m. Saturday scrimmage at St. John Fisher College.

The first-team offense and defense went against a fourth-string scout team portraying the Browns. The one big hit of the day occurred when Chris Watson, playing left corner in first-team nickel, walloped Charlie Rogers as he ran an out pattern. Keep in mind that, neither player were wearing pads, so all you could hear was a dull thud, like pizza dough hitting a counter. People gasped in the crowd upon the hit. Rogers dropped the pass, but got up. Watson was already up and swung his arm in a windmill motion, as if he might have hurt himself. But he stayed in the practice …

With about 20 minutes left in the workout, trainers were attending to first string under tackle Tyrone Robertson's left shoulder. They wrapped it in ice and he took a seat. He was replaced in the lineup by Leif Larsen …

The Bills worked on the two-minute offense and the first team offense looked pretty good. Drew Bledsoe took advantage of the DBs overcovering on the long pass and opted for Jay Riemersma and Larry Centers twice each underneath as the offense marched down the field. With eight seconds left, and the offense inside the 10, Aaron Schobel jumped offside, giving a free play to Bledsoe, who found Riemersma in the back of the end zone for at first looked like a touchdown catch – except he couldn't keep both legs in. They did not replay the down because of Schobel's penalty, however …

Strongside linebacker Keith Newman was playing linebacker in the second-team dime, with Brandon Spoon. Unless, he pass rushes, Newman doesn't look like he'll be in during passing situations this year – due to London Fletcher and Eddie Robinson's presence …

On a three-play goal-line series, the defense was missing a player along the line, forcing London Fletcher to yell for someone to get in there. "Don't you know how to play mother…… football?" he yelled, as Justin Bannan ran in. Fletcher is certainly fiery …

Drew Bledsoe found Dave Moore for a touchdown during goal-line drills ... The only player sitting out was Jerry Ostroski (PUP List, knee) ... Gregg Williams said he would meet with Browns coach Butch Davis tonight to discuss the exact set-up of the scrimmage. Drew Bledsoe did not know how long he would play. Williams said the second and third-stringers would get extended looks this weekend, starting tomorrow with reps with the Browns in practice.
