Report: Bills looking to trade up

The Bills are working hard to move into the upper-tier of this weekend's NFL Draft. After dealing Jason Peters, Buffalo is shifting trade talks into overdrive. has the exclusive report inside...

The Buffalo Bills are looking to trade up to the No. 3 overall pick, according to a league source.

The Bills are believed to be interested in one of the top two offensive tackles in the NFL Draft – Baylor's Jason Smith and Virginia's Eugene Monroe. With Smith likely to be taken by the St. Louis Rams at No. 2, Monroe would be Buffalo's target.

According to the source, Buffalo would deal its No. 11 and No. 28 picks in the first round for Kansas City's No. 3 selection. They aren't alone in this eleventh-hour negotiations, though. Four other teams are also in talks with the Chiefs to get to No. 3. These four teams, though, are looking to land USC's Mark Sanchez.

The Chiefs are looking to trade down to take LSU defensive end Tyson Jackson per the source. They realize No. 3 may be too high to take the beefy end.

Sweetening a possible deal with Buffalo is guard Brian Waters. Waters' name has been tossed around in discussions in a possible trade between Buffalo and Kansas City.'s Pat Moran reported here on March 1 that the Bills were interested in Waters. The Bills' line needs to be bolstered across the board.

The Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers are also trying to trade for Waters, the source said.

Buffalo is trying vigorously to upgrade an offensive line in transition. Derrick Dockery was dumped in free agency and the team dealt disgruntled Jason Peters to Philadelphia. While the front office did ink center Geoff Hangartner to combat the 3-4 defenses in the AFC East, there's still work to be done. Left tackle remains a colossal need.'s Adam Caplan reported that Buffalo was looking to slide ahead of the Cincinnati Bengals to take Alabama's Andre Smith. Now, it appears the team's aspirations to trade up may have more traction than initially thought.
