Schon: RR&R Plus the NFL Week Four Picks

Four shots at advancing the ball exactly three feet and the Broncos walk away as empty as a fat kid on prom night. Something tells me that light at the end of the tunnel is on a dimmer switch.

What a whacked out week for sports here in the 5280… Three hours studying stat sheets, a case of Coors Lite and the latest Ashton Kutcher scandal and the best I can pull out is 8-8 against the spread in the NFL, the so-called blockbuster trade for Melo falls through the cracks leaving the Nuggets looking for a dance partner and Josh McDaniels spends four days trying to wipe the Peyton Hillis egg off his face in front of the local media.

Man, I love Colorado…

Let's start with the MLB – After stroking then entire city about make noise in the NL West race the Colorado Rockies flip over faster than Jenna Jameson and come up flat. Ubaldo falls short on twenty despite having 15 wins at the All Star Break, Helton's sporting his lowest batting average since – I don't know – maybe forever - and heading into Sunday's finale they've dropped 11 of their last 12. Goodbye, good luck, see you at Spring Training – I vote to keep the mullet.

Crossing over Interstate 25 we've got every football guru and prognosticator in the state looking for the Broncos running game, mysteriously MIA since the arrival of Josh McDaniels and Co. Sadly it was the aforementioned McD who masterminded the whole Peyton Hillis exile in favor of his number one draft pick Knowshon Moreno. Considering everything in the NFL is based on results - this might be the perfect opportunity to actually look at the results –

Hillis
2008 Denver Broncos – 5.0 yards per carry
2009 Denver Broncos – 4.2 yards per carry
2010 Cleveland Browns – 5.6 yards per carry (currently ranked 10th in the NFL)

Moreno
2009 Denver Broncos – 3.8 yards per carry
2010 Denver Broncos – 2.8 yards per carry (currently ranked 25th in the NFL)

Seriously, this has got to rank up there as the worst trade out since the Elizabeth Hurley for Divine Brown jack up - with McDaniels doing his best Hugh Grant stand-in, minus the hair. Four shots at advancing the ball exactly three feet and the Broncos walk away as empty as a fat kid on prom night. Something tells me that light at the end of the tunnel is on a dimmer switch.

On to the Nuggets fiasco – Melo's here, he's in camp and he's met with head coach George Karl. On the flip side he still hasn't signed the $65 mill extension, his multi-million dollar wedding to LaLa (Yoko) Vasquez is plastered all over VH1 and 29 other NBA franchises are salivating over the opportunity to pick him up for a Coke an a smile before Denver is forced to eat their investment. You couldn't pay me enough to be Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri at this point. Ok – I take it back – you could pay me 1/10th his salary and I'd still have less hassles than dealing with my ex.

With all that said – I'm rolling with this weeks picks, again going head to head with Roni Bryant, who coincidentally happens to roll with Cowboys gear any chance she gets…needless to say I've still got SCOREBOARD through Week Three.
