When the V.P. of Footabll Operations and General Manager of the Denver Broncos,John Elway, swept the rug out from under the Kansas City Chiefs and signed free agent wide receiver, Emmanuel Sanders, it was a harbinger of things to come.
In Sanders' 4 years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he never eclipsed the 1,000 yard barrier receiving, and was the 3rd option for Ben Roethlisberger, so many in Broncos Country wondered if this guy was truly worth the 3-year, $15M deal the Broncos gave him.
Did you watch the Broncos week 3 preseason game vs the Houston Texans? Sanders had been shut out of the game-plan in week 1 vs the Seattle Seahawks, mainly because he'd primarily lined up vs Richard Sherman.
Then a quad injury kept him out of 10 days worth of practices and week 2 of the preseason. We finally got to see him in action in week 3, however.
And he exploded. Playing only in the 1st half, Sanders caught 5 balls, for 128 yards and 2 touchdowns. Both TDs were big vertical plays.
In 3 of the 4 fantasy football leagues I'm currently in, I found a way to draft him. I have no doubt that he'll eclipse Eric Decker's production within this offense.
And not to bag on Big Ben, but I think anyone who knows and understands football would say that Peyton Manning is a huge upgrade. Especially from a wide receiver's perspective.
Starting on Sunday Night Football, the games will count for the Denver Broncos. And with the absence of Wes Welker, due to his 4 game suspension, the onus will be on Sanders to produce.
Will he rise to the occasion? There's not a doubt in my mind.
