In week 11 vs the St. Louis Rams, he injured an ankle early on and missed almost all of the game. The Broncos ended up losing 22-7.
The injury also kept him out of last week's 39-36 victory over the Miami Dolphins. Virgil Green and Jacob Tamme filled in admirably, although it must be said that they combined for 1 reception for -1 yards. However, sans Thomas, the Broncos were able to run the ball with authority.
As the Broncos gear up to take on the Kansas City Chiefs tonight, on Sunday Night Football (NBC), the team is still uncertain if Thomas will be able to go. Troy Renck of the Denver Post is reporting that Thomas will be a game-time decision.
Following practice on Friday, head coach, John Fox, was asked if Thomas had progressed since last week.
“Yes, he’s much better this time this week than last week," said Fox
Fox's words are encouraging. Thomas is a valuable weapon in Peyton Manning's arsenal. On the season, he has 40 receptions for 426 yards and 12 touchdowns. Just a few weeks ago, he became the first tight end in NFL history to have back-to-back seasons of 12+ TDs.
The Broncos could use him tonight on the road, in a hostile Arrowhead environment. In two career games vs the Chiefs, Thomas has 7 receptions for 82 yards and 2 TDs. We'll monitor his situation closely and keep you advised.
Julius Thomas has been ruled out. He's inactive for tonight's game.
