Ball and Carter to IR, Trevathan Activated

The Broncos made several big roster transactions today.

Englewood, CO - The Denver Broncos made multiple transactions Saturday, placing Montee Ball and Quinton Carter on injured reserve, ending their season, while activating linebacker, Danny Trevathan, from IR and promoting tight end, Dominique Jones, from the practice squad.

Trevathan was eligible to return to the team from IR (designated for return) this week and has been practicing with the team for a few weeks. Trevathan suffered his first injury during the preseason, a fracture to the leg bone just below his left knee cap. He returned to the lineup against the Arizona Cardinals, but went down again the following week against the New York Jets, this time fracturing a bone at the top of the left knee cap.

Last season, Trevathan led the team with 129 tackles (88 solo), to go along with 2 sacks, 3 interceptions, 4 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery. He figures to help a defense that has also lost linebacker, Nate Irving, for the season.

Running back, Monte Ball, has suffered through a slew of injuries and setbacks this season, culminating with him being placed on IR today. He finishes the season with 55 carries for 172 yards, a 3.1 yards per carry average, with 1 touchdown and 1 fumble lost. This move will give Ball a full off-season to get healthy and compete for touches in 2015. In his absence, the trio of C.J. Anderson, Ronnie Hillman and Juwan Thompson have all seen success running the football this season.

Carter returned from back-to-back campaigns cut short by injury, only to land on IR today. On the season, he recorded 56 tackles (45 solo) and 1 sack. Unfortunately, this marks the third year in a row that he has landed on the IR list. Carter is scheduled to be a free agent in the off-season.

The recent emergence of Anderson at running back and David Bruton at safety likely made the decision to place Ball and Carter on IR easier for the coaches.

Dominique Jones was signed to the Denver practice squad on September 9th. In two NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, the 6'3, 270lb Shepherd University product has recorded 3 receptions for 42 yards.
