Many in Broncos Country hoped it the tide would turn and that Orlando Franklin would return to the Denver Broncos, but alas, he has signed a 5-year, $36.5M deal with divisional foes the San Diego Chargers. Franklin was one of the best and most earnest Broncos in recent years.
According to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, the Broncos did not make an effort to re-sign Franklin, which means that they didn’t see him as a scheme fit, or they simply knew his market would be too rich for their blood. Via Klis’ piece.
"I loved Denver," Franklin said. "Had an amazing four years there. Fans were great. It just (stinks) I didn't have a chance to keep playing there. The fact of the matter is when you don't get offered a deal, they're telling you they don't want you. They didn't even humor me with an offer. But San Diego is beautiful. I'm excited about that. This deal, it's a dream come true," Franklin said.
Since being drafted in the second round of the 2011 draft, Franklin has been a key cog on the Broncos offensive line. His physical prowess and nasty “get-after-it” attitude will be missed in the trenches. The Broncos still have three holes to fill on the offensive line—left guard, center and right tackle.
As for Orlando Franklin, we at MHH wish him the best in this new chapter of his professional career. His locker room insights will be missed.
