Report: Moore To Visit the Houston Texans

Free Agent safety Rahim Moore has a visit scheduled with the Houston Texans

Mike Klis of the Denver Post is reporting that free agent safety Rahim Moore is scheduled to visit the Houston Texans. As a second round pick of the Denver Broncos in 2011, Moore has been a major contributor on the backend of the defense.

With Devin McCourty off the market, having re-upped with the New England Patriots, Moore now emerges as the top free agent safety. Former Bills safety Da’Norris Searcy has also been taken off the board, signing with the Tennessee Titans yesterday.

That leaves Moore competing with Antrel Rolle as the top two safeties left available. Rolle is the more accomplished player, with more prolific production and accolades, but at 32, he’s seven years older than Moore.

The Broncos would like to get Moore back, in a perfect world, but their salary cap situation takes them out of competition, if Moore is indeed looking for a max contract. Being that he’s hitting his prime, it should not be doubted that he’s looking to get paid.

There has also been recent buzz that although the Broncos have some cap room, they might not be in a great situation as far as available cash is concerned. They spent a lot of money this time last year on free agents, four of which went to the Pro Bowl.

If Moore signs with Houston, the Broncos will have a hole to fill at free safety. Don’t be so certain that they’ll look to the free agent market to fill it. They reportedly want to give cornerback Kayvon Webster a look in Moore’s old spot. And if he doesn’t work out, David Bruton is on-roster and he played very well as the team’s No. 3 safety in 2014.

Regardless, expect John Elway to pick up at least one safety in the upcoming NFL draft. Players like Derron Smith, Cody Prewitt and Jacquiski Tartt are all options. Even Utah’s Eric Rowe could be available in the middle rounds.
