For the Denver Broncos 2015 rookie class, which includes the nine draft picks and the team’s crop of undrafted rookie free agents, the football season officially kicks off today. The rookies will report to Dove Valley for training camp, and will be joined by the veterans on Friday.
Players expected to report today include OLB Shane Ray, LT Ty Sambrailo, OG Max Garcia, CB Lorenzo Doss, DT Darius Kilgo and the Broncos trio of seventh round picks. One of those picks, QB Trevor Siemian, we’ll be monitoring closely to see how he’s recovered from the torn ACL he suffered while at Northwestern late last season.
If Siemian hopes to win a roster spot, he has to be close to 100%. Rookie storylines we'll be keeping tabs on include the following:
Is Darius Kilgo truly a threat to make the final roster?
Can Lorenzo Doss beat out veteran journeyman Tony Carter?
Are the Broncos asking too much of Ty Sambrailo so early in his career?
Where does Max Garcia factor in on the O-line?
Have Josh Furman's coverage skills improved?
We'll know soon enough.
That time of year that every Broncos fan waits for is upon us. From now, until January, the clash and din of football will be heard at Dove Valley. Hopes are high. Wounds have been licked. It’s time to shrug off the disappointments of last season and strive for that elusive Lombardi Trophy.
Gary Kubiak finally comes home. Peyton Manning returns. Demaryius Thomas gets paid. And Wade Phillips is in town to unleash fiery hell on the opposition. Football is back in the Mile High City, Broncos Country.
