Manning & Other Vets To Sit Friday vs Seattle

In a move that surprised no one, the Broncos have decided to sit Peyton Manning vs. the Seahawks on Friday.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – The Denver Broncos will travel to take on the Seattle Seahawks tomorrow night in their first preseason game of the season. Gary Kubiak, the 15th head coach in franchise history, will get his first opportunity to measure his squad vs. one of the NFL’s elite teams.

As for Peyton Manning, he’s had a phenomenal training camp, but the team decided to sit the five-time MVP. The Broncos are also expected to sit several other first-team veterans, like DeMarcus Ware, Demaryius Thomas, Owen Daniels and Emmanuel Sanders.

Chris Harris, Jr., Marvin Austin, Jr. and Lerentee McCray will not play, as they’ve been banged up and the team wants to be cautious. However, we will get to see C.J. Anderson in action behind the Broncos starting offensive line, according to Mike Klis of 9News.

Brock Osweiler will start on Friday night. He’s had an up and down camp but seems to have settled in over the last few days. The Broncos are hoping to see a quantum leap from their 2012 second round pick this August and as linebacker Lamin Barrow reminded us yesterday, the actual preseason games are where depth charts are truly settled.

The Seahawks will be without Marshawn Lynch and likely several other starters who might not be 100%. Don’t expect to see Brandon Marshall and Danny Trevathan in tomorrow night’s game. Instead, Todd Davis and Steven Johnson will get the start vs. the Seahawks potent running game, even without Lynch.

Peyton Manning will get plenty of opportunities to shine in August, especially in the third game, which is considered to be the ‘dress rehearsal’ for the regular season. Manning talked about how he prepares for a preseason game, even knowing he’ll likely sit.

“I think you always like to be in there,” Manning said. “I think you go through pregame warmups as if you’re going to play the whole game. You work up a lather, you get ready to go, you’re going full-speed and they say, ‘Hey, you’re out,’ then you’re out. I think that’s how you have to approach it mentally.”

Here’s how to watch the Broncos take on the Seahawks tomorrow night.
