Von Miller must be a fan of Key & Peele. Although it's possible his pelvic-thrusting sack dance was coincidentally similar to one of Key & Peele's most hilarious skits, the odds are he's been paying homage to one of the funniest and most original comedy shows in recent memory.
Miller has broken out said sack celebration a few times this year. Last week in Detroit, he continued the trend. However, the National Football League fired a shot across his bow Friday, fining him $11,567.
The irony is that Miller was penalized for roughing the passer last Sunday night, but rather than fining him for that snafu, the NFL decided to take exception to a silly sack dance that is more funny than it is inappropriate.
Drafted No. 2 overall in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos decided to apply a fifth-year option to Miller in 2015, paying him $9.754 million. In a contract year, Miller has been ferocious thus far.
Although he's only been credited with one sack, he has 3 QB hits and 17 hurries through three games, he's created more havoc in the backfield than any other player. He's even thrown in a couple of tackles for a loss to boot. With a +14.7 cumulative grade, Miller trails only Kansas City's Justin Houston (+15.1) as the highest rated outside linebacker in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.
It's only a matter of time before those QB pressures result in actual sacks. For Miller, they're likely to come in bunches. Don't worry about the eleven grand. He's on the verge of becoming one of the highest-paid players in the league.
