MHH Fantasy: Studs & Duds, Week 9

Khalid Alshami returns to break down this week's fantasy football studs & duds for the Mile High Mane-iacs who walk the Earth.

Stud of the Week: Eli Manning at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Six touchdowns? SIX?! Who knew the kid had it in him? (Rhetorical) Going up against a defense that has given up 78.5 points during the past three games, I like his chances to throw six more maybe.

Ben Roethlisberger vs. Oakland Raiders

Big Ben didn’t have a great game in his return from injury, but it was one game, against a great defense. Playing Oakland, Ben faces a team that has given up 48.4 points the past two games and has given up at least 17.2 points in 6-out-of-7 games this season.

Marcus Mariota at New Orlenans

I have had Mariota here for a while, yet he has been injured. This week returning from injury, Mariota gets the Saints, who don’t play any defense.

Dud of the Week: Andrew Luck vs. Denver Broncos

The Broncos just held the best QB in the league to 77 passing yards…

Cam Newton vs. Green Bay Packers

Green Bay should have Sam Shields back in this game. On a side note, Carolinas pass catchers aren’t very good.

Derek Carr at Pittsburgh Steelers

This game will show if Oakland is for real or not. I just don’t see Carr playing well in this hostile environment.

Stud of the Week: Jeremy Langford at San Diego Chargers

Getting bold here, Langford will step in for Matt Forte and be the lead back for Chicago. The Chargers are giving up 24.3 ppg to opposing runners, worst in the league.

Antonio Andrews at New Orleans Saints

He was just named the starter for the Titans and will get to play against New Orleans (see above).

Ronnie Hillman at Indianapolis Colts

Hillman is now the starter in the Denver backfield, although C.J. Anderson will continue to see plenty of work. In Indianapolis, the entire team will be fired up to win one for Peyton and I see Hillman being a big reason for leaving Indy with a victory.

Dud of the Week: T.J. Yeldon at New York Jets

The Jets are really good on defense—don’t let the Raiders game fool you. Yeldon won’t see much daylight in this one.

Latavius Murray at Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers are far better against the run than they are against the pass. Oakland just surprised a good New York Jets defense. I don’t see that happening two weeks in a row.

Frank Gore vs. Denver Broncos

If not for a highly questionable roughing the passer call, Eddie Lacy would have had an even worse day in Denver. Gore won’t find much room against the Broncos defense.

Stud of the Week: Emmanuel Sanders at Indianapolis Colts

As I predicted, Sanders was very quiet last week. This week, the Broncos get the reeling Colts. In the secondary, Vontae Davis is likely going to shadow Demaryius Thomas, leaving Sanders a little room for air.

Stevie Johnson vs. Chicago Bears

With Keenan Allen out for the remainder of the season, Johnson now becomes a top target for Phillip Rivers, after Antonio Gates.

Kendall Wright at New Orleans Saints

Something tells me with Mariota back under center, Wright has a bounce-back game.

Dud of the Week: Randall Cobb at Carolina Panthers

Fantasy-wise, I haven’t been a fan of Cobb recently and the reasoning in understandable. Against Josh Norman and the Panthers secondary, Cobb will be held in check.

Colts WRs vs. Denver Broncos

T.Y. Hilton, Andre Johnson and Donte Moncrief will be erased from this game.

Stefon Diggs vs. St Louis Rams

Against a very good Ram defense, Diggs will come back down to earth.

Stud of the Week: Delanie Walker at New Orleans Saints

Mariota back? Check. Playing the Saints who gave up 6 touchdown passes to the Giants? Check. Walker is set to have a good day.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins vs New York Giants

If Jenkins finally makes his return this Sunday, he should have a nice welcome back against a defense that has allowed the second most fantasy points to opposing tight ends this season.

Heath Miller vs. Oakland Raiders

Miller had a good day against the Bengals after getting Big Ben back. Against the Raiders, that trend should continue as Ben settles back in.

Dud of the Week: Julius Thomas at New York Jets

As the Denver Broncos moved to acquire a new tight end this week, their old one is predictably struggling in Jacksonville. The Jaguars were not aware they would be getting a 6-foot-5, 260-pound piece of glass.

Vernon Davis at Indianapolis Colts

A trade doesn’t boost his value yet. Davis does not know the offense and won’t until later in the season. Worth an add, but not a start.

Jason Witten vs. Philadelphia Eagles

There is no receiving value in Dallas until Tony Romo comes back to the team.

Stud of the Week: Denver Broncos at Indianapolis Colts

Andrew Luck is in for a long day. He will find himself on the ground often and chasing after Aqib Talib and Chris Harris, Jr. after they have recorded interceptions against him.

New York Jets vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jets defense will not suffer such a letdown two weeks in a row. They will be ready for Blake Bortles and company.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns

The Bengals get Johnny Football in primetime, with a short week for him to prepare.

Dud of the Week: Tennessee Titans at New Orleans Saints

The Saints put up 52 points and seven touchdown passes against the Giants. It seems like Drew Brees isn’t done after all.

Carolina Panthers vs. Green Bay Packers

Aaron Rodgers is only allowed to be shut down the way he was Sunday night once in his career.

Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins

I really feel like the Dolphins have figured it out—the blowout loss to New England notwithstanding.
