Don't Expect The Denver Broncos To Announce Who Their Starting QB Will Be In The Postseason

Peyton or Brock? Don't expect Gary Kubiak to tip his hat any time soon.

Peyton Manning or Brock Osweiler? Who will be the Denver Broncos starting quarterback in the playoffs?

Head coach Gary Kubiak likely knows the answer, but he's not about to tip his hat to the opposition and make an announcement. And why should he?

Manning and Osweiler are two different quarterbacks. Forcing opposing teams to have to game-plan for both of them is the smart thing to do. Divide and conquer.

It's Belichickian.

Kubiak was asked Monday when he'll announce his decision. He's keeping his cards close to the vest.

“Like I said, I have no timeline," Kubiak said. "I’m focused right now on how I’m going to go about getting the football team—how we’re going to approach it next week, especially as we sit here and wait on our next opponent.”

Eventually, when the Broncos begin practicing again, word will leak as to which QB is receiving the first-team reps. For Kubiak, the solution to that possible conundrum is simple.

Split the reps 50/50.

It's probably the wise thing to do anyway. With Manning's plantar fascia tear, he could re-aggravate it at any moment. Conversely, Osweiler is still dealing with the effects of a grade-two separated shoulder.

Doesn't it make sense for both players to be prepared and get reps?

For now, the Broncos are celebrating the spoils of victory. They'll get back to work on Thursday. Until then, Kubiak will remain unconcerned about making any form of announcement regarding a QB starter.

“No, I don’t have any concern because our football team understands we always have direction," he said. "They know. We get together and we’ve got direction. Like I said, they also understand that through the course of this season, what has taken place with our team and how we’ve handled it and the fact that it has taken all of us—they understand that. I think right now they deserve to enjoy what they got accomplished yesterday, and then we need to get back to work Thursday.”
