It was also a night marked by owner Pat Bowlen's induction into the Broncos' Ring of Fame at halftime.
The Broncos are hoping to catch lightning in a bottle twice this year, as the team's three Pro Football Hall of Fame finalists, John Lynch, Terrell Davis, and Steve Atwater, will serve as honorary team captains against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game.
The HoF triumvirate will also participate in the pre-game coin toss at mid-field. Going against the defending Super Bowl champions, the Broncos will need every edge they can get.
Emotions play a huge role in the outcome of a football game. Intensity, physicality, execution — these all stem from cultivating the right emotional constitution. The Broncos are hoping these three football greats will serve as that spark.
The Hall of Fame fate of Atwater, Davis, and Lynch will be decided on February 6th, on the eve of Super Bowl 50, when the 46-member selection committee will meet to cast their final votes in San Francisco.
It certainly wouldn't hurt if the Broncos found a way to help their momentum by advancing to their eighth Super Bowl berth by taking down the Patriots on Sunday.
