According to a source, Ball was arrested at 3:45 this morning at a downtown Madison hotel and has been charged with battery.
The Madison State Journal reports that Ball’s girlfriend told police he had put his hands on her, picked her up, and thrown her into a table.
Ball, 25, was the Broncos second round pick in the 2013 out of the University of Wisconsin. The Broncos released him following training camp this past August. He briefly played on the New England Patriots practice squad late in the season.
According to the Madison State Journal story, Ball’s girlfriend said he pushed her into a table with force, resulting in a cut to her leg, which required stitches to be administered at Madison’s St. Mary’s hospital.
Police found Ball waiting for them outside of the Hampton Hotel in which the incident occurred. According to a source, Ball was “extremely corporative.”
In his two season with the Broncos, Ball played in 21 games rushing for 731 yards on 175 attempts, an average of 4.2 yards per carry. While that number was impressive, it became clear during this season’s training camp that he had lost much of the burst that had made him a top-tier college running back.
Ball was an All-American caliber runner while at the University of Wisconsin, where he rushed for an incredible 5,140 yards and 77 touchdowns.
