Von Miller might have 99 problems, but if money's one them, it won't be for long.
The MVP of Super Bowl 50 has played out the entirety of his rookie contract, including an additional fifth year that was optioned by the Denver Broncos, and is now poised to hit unrestricted free agency.
Worse case scenario for the Broncos would be to have to franchise tag him. Fortunately, from the sounds of it, it might not come to that.
Indeed, signing Miller to a long term extension would open the way toward the Broncos locking QB Brock Osweiler up before he hits the open market on March 9th.
The Broncos have 15 other players set to hit unrestricted free agency. Miller's leviathan of a contract looms over the team. Getting a deal done soon would provide some salary cap clarity for the team and their approach to free agency.
Since the Super Bowl, Miller has publicly expressed the desire to stay in Denver multiple times. He's John Elway's first draft pick. Selected No. 2 overall in the 2011 NFL Draft, right after QB Cam Newton,
Miller has been elected to the Pro Bowl in every season and earned All-Pro honors, except for his injury/suspension plagued 2013 season that saw him miss almost half the games.
The crowning glory on Miller's resume, however, is his most recent accomplishment. Leading the defensive attack that brought the Broncos their third Lombardi Trophy.
Miller has overcome his maturity issues off the field and has become a leader in the locker room. He is back in the Broncos' full fellowship of trust.
And he always produces on the field. This man is about to get mega-paid. And Von Miller deserves it.
