As much as Brock Osweiler talked about wanting to return to the Denver Broncos during the 2015 season, it comes as something of a surprise to see how deftly he's leveraged the interest of other teams on the open market.
The Houston Texans have been the Broncos biggest competition in bringing Osweiler back, but sources say they're cooling somewhat on the four-year veteran, which has given rise to renewed negotiations with John Elway.
Free ageny officially opens at 2 p.m. today and the Broncos want to get a new deal inked with Osweiler before then. Our sources say that guaranteed money has been an issue in negotiations.
But, Elway will have to increase his offer in order to secure Osweiler for the future. NFL teams are only as good as their starting quarterback. The Broncos need Osweiler back, despite their posturing in the media that they're "high" on Trevor Siemian, last year's seventh round pick.
Osweiler is still smarting over being benched in Week 17, after his offense turned the ball over a whopping five times. Emotions can play a big role in negotiations.
From what we're hearing, things are speeding up. Osweiler is back to the negotiating table with Elway and based on the wiley old GM's track record, we hope for a deal to get done today.
