Memphis Quarterback Paxton Lynch Visits The Denver Broncos

The tall, athletic gunslinger is currently ranked as the third best passer in the upcoming NFL draft.

Englewood, CO- The Denver Broncos are apparently great multi-taskers.  At the same time they were working out draft prospects that went to high school in the Denver area at a local pro day, they were hosting a prospect with a somewhat higher pedigree.

According to multiple reports and independent sources, Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch visited the defending Super Bowl champion’s Dove Valley facility for a pre-draft evaluation with Broncos General Manager John Elway and head coach Gary Kubiak Tuesday afternoon.

Lynch, 22, is a striking prospect who stands 6’7” and can move with elite athleticism. He is currently ranked by as the third best quarterback in the upcoming NFL draft. If the Broncos like what they see out of Lynch during his workout, they’ll likely have to move up ahead of the Los Angeles Rams to get him, which could mean making a deal with the division rival Oakland Raiders for the 14th overall pick.

However, such a move may be worth it for a team as quarterback needy as Denver. Since losing Brock Osweiler to the Houston Texans in free agency and Peyton Manning to retirement, the Broncos have yet to find a fit at the game’s most important position.

They currently have two quarterbacks on their roster, veteran Mark Sanchez and second year passer Trevor Siemian.

According to sources, trade talks with the San Francisco 49ers for quarterback Colin Kaepernick have cooled considerably in recent days as all three parties involved wrestle with the $4.9 million the Broncos want to cut out of Kaepernick’s 2016 salary.

Sources say the deal could still get done, but it likely wouldn’t happen until the calendar creeps closer to the NFL draft, which begins on April 28. In the meantime, the Broncos seem to have turned their attention to options in the draft.

Lynch is the third quarterback who has been scheduled to work out with the Broncos. Dak Prescott from Mississippi State visited last week and Michigan State's Connor Cook is scheduled to work out later this week.
