Report: Quarterback Brian Hoyer Will Visit The Denver Broncos

The Broncos will kick the tires on Brian Hoyer.

After an unproductive visit to the New York Jets, free agent quarterback Brian Hoyer is reportedly on his way to visit the Denver Broncos. Hoyer left New York without a contract offer.

The Jets finished as the runners up in the 2015 Brian Hoyer sweepstakes, when he instead chose the Houston Texans. After helping to quarterback them to a playoff berth and an embarrassing Wildcard loss vs. Kansas City — in which he turned the ball over five times — the Texans released him recently.

Houston has Brock Osweiler. Goodbye, Brian.

Now, John Elway will kick the tires on the eighth-year veteran. The Broncos want to go into training camp with four quarterbacks on the roster. Currently, they have two — Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian.

It would make sense to hedge whatever bet they have in Sanchez with another veteran to compete in camp. And if Siemian blows them both away, fantastic.

Whether Hoyer gets signed by the Broncos or not, expect them to take a long-term option at quarterback in the NFL Draft, which kicks off on April 28.

For his part, Brian Hoyer started nine games in 2015. He threw for 2,606 yards and 19 touchdowns, with just seven interceptions in the regular season — all while completing 60.7 percent of his passes.

The former undrafted rookie out of Michigan State has also spent time with the New England PatriotsPittsburgh SteelersArizona Cardinals, and Cleveland Browns.
