Report: Denver Broncos are Interested in Trading up from 31

The Denver Broncos are interested in moving up in the draft according to reports.

The Denver Broncos are interested in trading up from their 31st pick in the draft, according to a report by Walter Football's Charlie Campbell

Denver also is in the quarterback market. In speaking to league contacts, they believe the Broncos would draft Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch if he got to them, but many around the league don't think that Lynch will reach the Broncos. Trading up with Green Bay would allow Denver to leap division rival Kansas City (28th pick), who also could consider Lynch.

This rumor comes as no surprise as John Elway has moved up in the draft before and is equipped with 10 draft selections this season and is expected to receive multiple compensatory picks in 2017 for players lost via free agency. The team is also very interested in a quarterback who until recently was expected to fall to the 20s.

The major target for the Broncos in a potential move, Memphis signal-caller Paxton Lynch, is being projected to go anywhere from the seventh pick to the 31st pick in the first round. If Lynch does indeed slide, the Broncos would then look to trade up to the 27th pick from the Green Bay Packers, while leapfrogging the Kansas City Chiefs, who also have interest in selecting Lynch.

According to sources, the Broncos, as well as the Cleveland Browns, have had discussions with the Packers about a potential move. One key point that Campbell makes in his report, is that these conversations that Elway might be having with other GMs is to put a framework in place, in the event the targeted player drops to within striking distance. It expedites the process on draft day.

Don't expect to hear news that the Broncos have actually made a trade to move up before draft day. If they trade up, it'll happen during the first round.

If Lynch does indeed slide in the draft, trading up to select the young gunslinger would be a major coup for Elway, as he is viewed as a great fit for the Broncos. The Broncos acquired their fail-safe quarterback in Mark Sanchez and have a developmental guy in Trevor Siemian, who they're hoping can surprise everyone in his second year.

Siemian is a longshot, however. And it's very likely Sanchez has already hit his ceiling. Thus, John Elway is looking for the next potentially great Broncos quarterback. If they think Paxton Lynch could be that guy, trading up to select him makes sense.
