Harris, who is almost always sporting a wide smile on and off the field, had some refreshingly optimistic views on the matter.
"Definitely think it’s gonna be done Thursday night [or] Friday morning," Harris told NFL Network's Eric Davis. "I think they’ll come to an agreement and Von [will] end up becoming the highest paid defensive player in the league."
http://www.scout.com/nfl/broncos/story/1681565-5-reasons-you-should-go-p...The tight timetable that Harris suggested may very well end up proving prophetic. Broncos GM John Elway has shown a habit of waiting out contract disputes until the 11th hour. Last year, the Broncos didn't agree to a new deal with wide receiver Demaryius Thomas until a scant 30 minutes before the franchise tag deadline.
Miller has been adamant in saying that if a new contract isn't agreed to by the Friday deadline, he would rather sit out the season than play under the franchise tag in 2016. And his teammate believes him.
"You've got to take his word for it," Harris continued. "I think Von is serious."
The closer it gets to the deadline, the more credible Miller's threat appears. It would be hard to pass up the $14 million that the Super Bowl MVP would make without a new contract this season, but Miller's steadfast disgust for the franchise tag is the wild card. As much of a nightmare scenario it would bring to pass, the ultimate way to protest the tag would be to sit out the season.
In any case, let's hope that Harris's prediction proves to be true. The clock is ticking.
