McBriar traded to Seattle

The Denver Broncos Friday traded punter Mat McBriar to the Seattle Seahawks for a conditional draft pick in 2004.

McBriar signed with the Broncos as a rookie free agent on April 28, and appeared in one preseason game for the Broncos. In Denverís preseason opener at Houston, McBriar had a 40.4 gross and a 24.6 net average on seven punts for 283 yards, including one touchback and one inside the opponentís 20-yard-line.

McBriar played three years at Hawaii, where he punted 131 times for 5,531 yards (42.2 avg.) with 32 attempts downed inside the 20-yard line during his career. Only Broncos kicker Jason Elam (43.5-yard average, 1988-92) had a better punting average in school history. As a senior, McBriar was an All-Western Athletic Conference first-team selection, after punting 48 times for 2,148 yards (44.8 avg) with a long of 73 yards and had 12 attempts downed inside the 20-yard line.
