Invesco, Sports Authority, and now... well, we're still not sure!
http://www.scout.com/nfl/broncos/story/1719434-get-si-subscription-with-... But a sports and entertainment company called WME-IMG is going to step in and help the Denver Broncos with this important decision. It will be largely up to them to select which company's name graces the signage at what is currently known as Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
“WME | IMG’s extensive network throughout the sports and entertainment industry will serve as a tremendous resource for our organization in this very important process,” Broncos President and CEO Joe Ellis said.
It may sound silly to call the naming of a stadium a "very important process," but Ellis isn't wrong. There are some really bad names out there on the front of stadiums and arenas across these United States. Look no further than the NBA...
- Quicken Loans Arena (Cleveland)
- Smoothie King Center (New Orleans)
- Talking Stick Resort Arena (Phoenix)
- Vivint Smart Home Arena (Salt Lake City)
- BMO Harris Bradley Center (Milwaukee)
It's hard not to get fired up for a trip to the ol' BMO. Oh and if that's not bad enough, you could have a stadium named after a sporting goods chain mired in bankruptcy.
“Naming rights are critical to improving our stadium and the overall fan experience. Teaming up with WME | IMG will help us find the right partner that understands the values of our organization and this community," Ellis continued.
The name does matter. The New England Patriots have Gillette Stadium, which is perfect because it masks the stench of severe NFL misconduct, and the San Francisco 49ers have Levi's Stadium because dropping a thousand dollars to watch a terrible football team in a stadium half-full of Silicon Valley yuppies who barely understand football and scoff at tailgating is as uncomfortable as a tight pair of jeans.
As long as the Broncos and WME-IMG choose a name that reflects winning, the fans shall be pleased.
