Denver Broncos Are Reportedly Interested In Miami Dolphins Defensive Coordinator Vance Joseph

Add another young guy to the list of candidates the Broncos are interested in for their head coaching vacancy.

When the Denver Broncos went about their search for a new head coach exactly two years ago, one guy who really impressed GM John Elway was Cincinnati Bengals defensive backs coach Vance Joseph.

http://www.scout.com/nfl/broncos/story/1742489-kubiak-makes-it-official-... Joseph was Denver's second choice for head coach, if they were unable to secure Gary Kubiak's services. Joseph finished out 2015 under Marvin Lewis in Cincinnati, and then took a job with upward mobility with Adam Gase as the defensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins

According to multiple league sources, Joseph is on Denver's radar as a candidate to replace Kubiak as the team's head coach.

In his first year as a defensive coordinator, Joseph has been praised for his ability as a communicator, specifically with his players, and for his X's and O's scheming on gameday. He also has second degree ties to the Broncos organization, serving as Kubiak's defensive backs coach of the Houston Texans from 2011-13.

Joseph held that position in Houston under defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, whom Elway said Monday the Broncos would like to keep in a perfect world, so long as the new head coach felt the same way. Elway said he wants to keep as much continuity on the defensive side of the ball as possible.

“Obviously that’s going to be a lot up to the new head coach," Elway said. "I think when you look at it and you look at what we have and the team that we have, I think it’s a job that a lot of guys would have and would be an excellent coaching staff, but that’s going to be up to the next coach. I’m sure we will retain a lot of them. Hopefully they’ll retain a lot of them. Obviously we would like to keep as much continuity as we can, too. If we can keep as much of them together, we’ll try to do that.”

It's important to remember that Elway has already ruled out hiring any current Broncos coaches for the head job. Joseph fits the "bright, young" mold Elway spoke to on Monday, as does Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, whom the Broncos have officially requested to interview

"Obviously there are a lot of young guys out there that have a lot of potential and very bright young guys, so hopefully we can get one of those.”

Although he wouldn't specify which, Adam Gase confirmed to ESPN that multiple teams have already requested an interview with Joseph, but it's out of the question this week, as the Dolphins prepare for their Wildcard game. The soonest the Broncos could get in front of Joseph would be next week, assuming Miami is knocked out of the postseason.

Vance Joseph is 44 years old. Kyle Shanahan is 37. If either were hired by the Broncos, it would be the first head coaching job of either guy's respective career. But both guys have connections to the Broncos in one form or another, and they would both bring a more youthful energy to the job.
