Aqib Talib Named Best Coverage Defender by Pro Football Focus

More awards and accolades are piling up for the No-Fly Zone's shutdown corner.

Aqib Talib is undoubtedly one of the more talented members of an already talent-rich squad in the Denver Broncos. He's flashed shutdown ability from his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to when he put the clamps on Demaryius Thomas when he was manning the corner position for the New England Patriots. It still doesn't feel like he put the full package together until he signed with the Broncos. In his three years since moving to Mile High, he's fused his sticky coverage ability with an almost supernatural knack for taking the ball away and getting into the end zone.

Talib is finally starting to get his due as an elite cover corner. It started when AP named him first-team All-Pro, and the love is continuing to roll in from Pro Football Focus, who dubbed Talib the best coverage defender of the 2016 season.

Here's what they had to say about their decision:

"Aqib Talib was the best cover corner in the NFL this season and the best player at any position when it came to coverage. He didn’t allow a touchdown all season, and when targeted, surrendered a passer rating of just 49.5 (second in the NFL). In total, Talib gave up just 351 receiving yards from 66 targets, surrendering 35 catches to receivers and not allowing a reception longer than 26 yards all season. His teammate, Denver cornerback Chris Harris Jr. was also in the running, but he surrendered three scores over the year and often saw Talib taking a tougher matchup in terms of opposing receiver."

This will likely add some fire to the "is he a hall-of-famer" debate that has sparked up recently. At this point, there's no denying the numbers, and he probably would have a better shot than his younger teammate Chris Harris purely based on name recognition.

It also helps that the recognition and accolades are piling up. Not to mention all of the real estate he owns in Michael Crabtree's head.
