Denver Broncos Hire Geep Chryst to Coach Tight Ends

Denver adds another veteran coach to aid Vance Joseph in year one.

The Denver Broncos have rounded out their offensive coaching staff with yet another experienced football mind.

The final step was securing a tight ends coach, and the Broncos found their man in veteran offensive coach Geep Chryst. Chryst, 54, is well into his third decade of coaching at the NFL level, beginning his journey in 1991 as an offensive assistant for the Chicago Bears. Since then, he's spent time as a tight ends coach, quarterbacks coach, and offensive coordinator for the Arizona CardinalsSan Diego ChargersCarolina Panthers, and most recently the San Francisco 49ers. His son, Keller Chryst, started several games at quarterback last year for the Stanford Cardinal.

Once Chryst enters the building, he'll have a plenty of work and decisions to make regarding the Broncos' log jam at the tight end position. Virgil Green is undoubtedly the veteran leader of the group, but Jeff Heuerman and A.J. Derby both flashed potential around the end of the season. And after finally getting a taste of the NFL in the last two weeks of the regular season, Henry Krieger-Coble will be battling hard to stay on the active roster heading into 2017.

If that wasn't enough to sort out, there's been plenty of draft buzz and speculation swirling around Denver's first-round pick at 20th overall. O.J. Howard of Alabama is one of the most versatile and complete tight end prospects in recent memory, while Miami's David Njoku provides unparalleled athleticism at the position and should be around by the time the Broncos are on the clock.

We'll see if Chryst has the same input into the draft process that Bill Kollar did a year ago when John Elway took his advice and picked up Adam Gotsis in the second round.
