REPORT: Calais Campbell Considering Taking Less Money to Join Denver Broncos

Calais Campbell to Jacksonville looked all but done. Not so fast.

There's a reason we use the word "expected" to describe deals that are all but signed prior to the official 4 p.m. eastern start of Free Agency today.

http://www.scout.com/nfl/broncos/story/1681565-5-reasons-you-should-go-p... It looked last night like Calais Campbell joining the Jacksonville Jaguars was as sure as could be without Campbell actually signing his name on the dotted line, but it appears that might not be the case.

According to Chris Mortenson of ESPN, Campbell is considering taking less money to join the Denver Broncos instead of the Jags.

Campbell has roots in Colorado; he was born in Denver and played at South High School before migrating down south to play his college ball at the University of Miami.

It's significant that whatever the Broncos are offering isn't much lower than the Jags deal, which allows some other factors to come to the forefront. It's obviously a good chance to return home for Campbell, but more than that, it's a chance to win. Campbell's career with the Arizona Cardinals has been marked by some very successful seasons, including a trip to the Super Bowl in his rookie campaign, but he's never hoisted the Lombardi.

There's really no arguing that the Broncos are more likely to make a Super Bowl run than are the Jags, no matter how young and talented they may be. Denver is just a year removed from a Super Bowl of their own, and the Jaguars are still struggling to achieve an even record.
