Calais Campbell Will Sign with Jacksonville Jaguars

All but officially a Jag. Calais Campbell reconsidered, keeping the Broncos in mind. In the end, the better weather and more money won out.

Nothing becomes official in NFL Free Agency until it's officially official. But now it's re-official.

Case in point: former Arizona Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell. Last night, word got out that Campbell had agreed in principle to a deal that would have paid him $14 million per year with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Not so fast. After all that, Campbell showed signs of indecision, and reports flowed that he would consider an offer with the Denver Broncos at $13 million per year.

In the end, the Jags upped their offer to $15 million, and that was enough to get Campbell for four years, $60 million total, with $30 million guaranteed.

Campbell, 30, brings a rugged leadership to the defensive line and will now be paired up with former-Bronco Malik Jackson, serving as both a run stuffer and pass rusher on the edge. Over his nine-year career, Campbell has notched 56.5 sacks, forced eight fumbles, and at six-foot-eight, has gotten his hands on an astonishing 42 passes.

Born and raised in Denver, Campbell played at South High School before heading south to spend his college years at the University of Miami. In 2008, he became the 50th overall pick in the draft to the Arizona Cardinals, who came just inches away from winning Super Bowl XLIII at the end of his rookie year. After the end of the Kurt Warner era in Arizona, the Campbell toiled for a rudderless Cardinals franchise, but finally returned to playoffs under Bruce Arians.

It's going to be tougher to cap it all off with a Lombardi in Jacksonville than in Denver, but you can't fault a man for taking the money.
