Report: Sylvester Williams Signs With The Tennessee Titans

The Broncos said goodbye to their 2013 first round pick. Sylvester Williams is signing in Tennessee.

The writing was on the wall when the Denver Broncos chose not to exercise defensive tackle Sylvester Williams' fifth-year option a year ago. The Broncos drafted Williams in the first round in 2013, and he's started on the team's defensive line for most of his four years in the Mile High City.

Now, Williams will be suiting up in Tennessee, according to a recent report.

At the NFL Combine, GM John Elway said that the Broncos had interest in re-signing Williams, but that the former North Carolina Tar Heel wanted to test the market. Williams has done so, and although the dollar amounts Tennessee signed him to are not yet known, it was more than Elway was willing to pay.

The Broncos have interest in DT Johnathan Hankins. And there are many other value options on the market.

Plus, this year's NFL Draft offers one of the deepest D-line classes in recent memory, so the Broncos will have options. But free agency is for filling holes. And right now, Denver's nose tackle spot is wide open.

Denver has explored a possible trade with the New York Jets for Sheldon Richardson. That possibility remains on the table. Richardson can play nose tackle or defensive end.

Bottom line, the Broncos need to get busy adding to the D-line, after the first two days of free agency were focused on bolstering the O-line.

For Williams, he never quite lived up to expectations in Denver. But he was a solid contributor and played a role on Denver's Super Bowl Champion defense little more than a year ago.

Happy trails, Sly.
