Report: Running Back Prospect Joe Mixon To Visit The Denver Broncos On Thursday

The Broncos are doing their due diligence on a very talented running back in this year's draft class.

The Denver Broncos are looking to add depth to their running back corps. Whether that comes via free agency or the NFL Draft remains to be seen.

ESPN's Jeff Legwold reported that the Broncos will visit with Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon.

Mixon is considered by some to be the most talented back in this class, believe it or not. He's right up there with guys like Leonard FournetteDalvin Cook and Christian McCaffrey.

But off-the-field issues have combined to severely cripple Mixon's draft stock. However, that trend seems to be reversing and is now pointing up.

Back in July of 2014, Mixon was caught on camera punching a female student. He was also suspended for one game by the Sooners for an altercation with a campus parking attendant, of all things.

The Broncos, however, really like Mixon's ability — from what we're told. GM John Elway has not shied away from drafting players with off-the-field troubles in the first round, so long as the talent is there

In the case of Shane Ray and Bradley Roby, their run-ins with the law were DUI related and only happened once, respectively. Mixon has been violent and his temper has gotten the best of him on more than one occasion.

Mixon appeared in 12 games last year, carrying the ball 187 times for 1,274 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also chipped in 37 receptions for 538 yards and five more scores.

Some scouts compare him to Pittsburgh's Le'Veon Bell. Our own Nick Kendell has compared him to Arizona's David Johnson

There's no question Mixon's got talent. But he's shown a lack of restraint on multiple occasions, and unless he experiences a precipitous drop on Draft Day, the Broncos should steer clear of him.
