Denver Broncos Select Georgia WR Isaiah McKenzie at Pick 172

The Broncos add another player that can compete for the kick-returning job in WR Isaiah McKenzie out of Georgia.

The Denver Broncos have traded up in the fifth round to select another playmaker, this time snagging Georgia wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie with the 172nd pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Along with Carlos Henderson, McKenzie becomes the second wide receiver the Broncos have drafted since the third round. Throw in tight end Jake Butt and that's three explosive weapons joining the team in the past couple of days. At five-foot-seven and just 173 pounds, McKenzie will likely be featured more on special teams and in return duties.

Over the course of his career, McKenzie showed his ability to be a big-play specialist in the SEC, taking back five punts and one kickoff back for touchdowns. In his junior year, he came alive as a receiver, snagging 44 passes for 633 yards and seven touchdowns.

In order to move up and take McKenzie, the Broncos pulled off their third trade of the day and sent two picks, 238 and 175, to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for the 172nd pick.

McKenzie not only joins a crowded receiving corps, but he will be able to compete for the kick-returning job with Carlos Henderson and last year's returner, Kalif Raymond.

It's become no secret that the Broncos have been searching for their own version of Tyreek Hill, a gamebreaker that can affect the game on offense and special teams. Between Henderson and McKenzie, the Broncos may have found an answer.

Our Senior Draft Analyst Erick Trickel had this to say about the Isaiah McKenzie pick.

McKenzie is small, quick and explosive. He is a returner first and foremost at the NFL level, who can have a certain role on offense. He had 6 total return touchdowns in college. On offense, OC Mike McCoy will find a way to get him a few touches a game and hope for the big play.
