Denver Broncos Select Running Back De'Angelo Henderson With The 203rd Pick In The Draft

The Broncos drafted one of the Draft's sleeper running backs in Coastal Carolina's DeAngelo Henderson.

The Denver Broncos added "juice" to the offense, adding left tackle Garett Bolles in the first, wideout Carlos Henderson in the third, and tight end Jake Butt and wideout Isaiah McKenzie in the fifth.

However, after trading away Kapri Bibbs, the Broncos still hadn't had the right running back fall to them in the Draft — until the sixth round. With the 203rd pick, the Broncos took Coastal Carolina's De'Angelo Henderson

At 5-foot-7, 208 pounds, Henderson is a quick and decisive runner who does not often go down on first contact. He brings speed, quickness and grit to a Broncos backfield already in need of bolstering, before Bibbs was shipped off.

In each of his last three seasons at Coastal Carolina, Henderson eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark, while combining for 52 rushing touchdowns. He struggled with some academic issues early in his collegiate career but when he finally hit the field, he was a star.

Henderson can be compared to players like Danny Woodhead but Henderson runs with a sneaky sort of power for his size. When he was on the field, Henderson was CCU's best player. The Denver Broncos got them a truly versatile back who will fit in well with offensive coordinator Mike McCoy's system.

Our Senior Draft Analyst Erick Trickel broke Henderson down in his Finding Broncos scouting report. Here's a snippet of what he had to say.

For Henderson the scheme doesn’t matter. He has the ability to play in either. Teams will want to work with him on making tacklers miss, instead of just trying to power through as often as he does. That will get him hurt at the NFL level.

Henderson plays bigger than his size, but can also make himself small in the hole. This allows him five or more yards before defenders realize where he is. His size will be a concern at the NFL level, but players like him have been used with great success. All teams have to do is look at them for how to use Henderson.
