Denver Broncos Agree To Terms With RB Jamaal Charles

The Broncos just added a very familiar foe to their backfield.

The Denver Broncos are a whole lot faster than they were at this time last week.

In addition to the multiple speedsters they picked up in the draft this past weekend, Denver has agreed to terms with former Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles on Tuesday.

It is reportedly a one-year deal, worth up to $3.75 million. Charles will get the opportunity to earn every nickel through incentives and playing time.

Charles, 30, has played in just eight games over the past two seasons due to a torn ACL suffered in 2015. However, the former Texas Longhorn has been one of the league's most explosive runners since being drafted in 2008, rushing for over 1,000 yards in each of the five seasons in which he played in at least 15 games. He's also the Chiefs' all-time leading rusher and has averaged 5.5 yards per carry in his career.

It might be odd to see Charles, a thorn in the Broncos' side for the better part of a decade, sporting the orange and blue in 2017. He'll join a stable of running backs that includes C.J. AndersonDevontae Booker, and newly-drafted rookie De'Angelo Henderson out of Coastal Carolina.

In his 10th year, it would be unrealistic to expect the same player that's paced the Chiefs offense for so long, but with Anderson presumably carrying the load, Charles won't be the fulcrum for Denver's attack. The move also gives the Broncos an insurance policy at running back, making sure the run game doesn't sag in production like it did a year ago when Anderson was sidelined for over half the season.

The Charles signing fills what seems to be an insatiable need for speed in the Denver offense. Carlos HendersonIsaiah McKenzieDe'Angelo Henderson, and now Charles can all fly. We'll see if it translates into points come September.
